What exactly do you do?I duplicate drawings made by people in secret, tell what names they're thinking of, memorize long lists of information, identify the day of the week for any calendar date, and other odd feats of ‘mental acrobatics,’ as they’ve been dubbed. I use sharp observation, deduction, a trained memory, and other tricks I've developed to push the limits of the human mind. There’s no one good word for what I do. I’ve been called a mindreader in the past and the name kind of stuck. Fair enough.
What kinds of abilities do you really have?
I can read body language fairly accurately. It’s really the same thing that we all do, I’ve just honed my observation to be very precise. For instance, some demonstrations deal with identifying lies from truths. I also have a near photographic memory. It’s not a perfect photographic memory, but it allows me to memorize extremely long lists, sometimes over one hundred items. I can memorize a shuffled stack of playing cards in just a few minutes. I can pinpoint the day of the week for any date I’ve been alive. If I’m really on my game I’ll even remember the weather or special events that took place around that day.
What if audience members have thoughts they’d rather keep to themselves?
To be honest, I actually can’t ‘read’ anything a person truly doesn’t want me to know. It’s kind of like how a hypnotist can’t force a person to act against their will. I might be able to tell what’s happening on the surface, but deep dark secrets are out of reach for me. I’m not psychic, and if someone really doesn’t want to tell me something, I can’t force it out of them. Not legally, anyway.
How demanding are your needs for a show?
Not very. My shows are all geared around the minds of the audience. There are never any messy clean-ups or awkward props that have to be hauled in or out. In fact, you would only have to provide a suitable sound system (which is usually part of an event anyway), everything I need can usually fit in a briefcase. Even then, sound is only needed for larger groups, say, fifty or more. Otherwise, I have no problems projecting my voice.
What kinds of events do you perform for?
It’s a pretty good range. I perform for private parties, orientations, wedding receptions, company get togethers, schools, fundraisers, after-dinner engagements, and corporate events. Really, anyone that is looking for some kind unique, thought-provoking entertainment. Most people come to me because they want their event to be especially unique in some fashion. They want their guests to have a very memorable time.
Are there occasions that you are NOT good for?
Hmm. Good question. Maybe, younger crowds. My performances are really geared toward young adults and above. What I do is very conceptual and tends to be intriguing on an intellectual level. I don’t have dazzling red silks or fire torches. High school is usually the youngest. You probably wouldn’t want me for, say, a children’s birthday party. Project Grad or private grad parties are all right though. Also, gardening. I’m a horrible gardener.
What about audience participation?
Tons of audience participation. A mindreader can’t do anything without minds to read. Something I’ve been finding particularly interesting lately is turning audience members into the mindreaders.
Will you be able to come early for set up?
Absolutely. In fact, it’s what I prefer. I am more than happy to come in before the event for no additional charge. I always want to make sure I am familiar with the performance space so I can address any potential problems before they arise. The smoother the show for me, the better the entertainment for you.
How much does a show cost?
Rates are different for every show. Many things factor into the price of a show. Traveling distance, audience size, show length. These are important factors that change from event to event. If you shoot an email with your event information I can send you the customized rate for your event.
